Layla Chatoor marked her bridal debut ramp showcase at PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week 2012 with her collection, ‘The Queens Jewels’ – celebrating the bride as a queen on her special day.
The inspiration behind the designs was the intricately worked filigree as seen in the Queens tiaras with scroll motifs set against the brilliance of diamonds reflected through the cutwork collection. The necklaces encrusted with emeralds, rubies and sapphires was depicted in the gemstone collection, and the artisanal brooches set in mother of pearls on a bed of pure white and silver brought about the mother of pearl collection.
All this placed on a bed of warm apricots, rust, maroons, rich pinks, exotic golds and icy turquoises mixed with plums and aubergines gave the collection a timelessly elegant yet modern looking aesthetic. The silhouette, by depicting long, lounging and voluminous cuts like the Queens opulent robes and gowns reflects grandeur for a modern experimental bride.
Layla had used quality fabrics such as French chantilly lace, tulle and lamé, rich jamavars and brocades fused with innovative methods in embroidery and creative use of craftsmanship. Her hand crafted bridal couture was embellished in swarovski crystals, myuki beads, Japanese pearls, silver and gold thread and mukaish. Indeed this collection payed homage to all the artisans working day and night to create timeless original classics worthy of collecting and inheriting.
